Homemade Mexican Chili Sauces
Once in a while in our dining out experiences we stumble across a taste so unique and delicious that we want to recreate it at home. The introduction of Chico's Chili & Spices affords us that rare opportunity.
Owner Geri Duran began her cooking career 13 years ago as owner of Chico's Mexican Restaurant in Salida, Colorado. Although both popular and profitable, the business closed in 1990 for personal reasons. Geri's love of cooking lived on, however, and she continued to create mouth-watering Mexican dishes for family and friends. Through painstaking trail and error, Geri refined her recipes until she discovered the right blend of spices for the perfect chili.
The culmination of Geri’s hard work is Chico’s Chili & Spices, a business venture targeting those in search of restaurant quality chili that is easy to prepare at home. Premixed chili and spices are sold in individual pouches complete with simple instructions for preparation.
Chico’s Chili & Spices is available in three varieties: Red - Hot, Red - Mild and Green. In her red chili mixes Geri includes a finely ground chili powder from a family farm in world-famous Hatch, New Mexico. The green mixes are spices only, completed by adding fresh, frozen or canned green chili. Excellent alone, the chili makes a wonderful sauce for smothering burritos, enchiladas, chili rellenos and other Mexican favorites.
